To feature a nearby city on the homepage, our hosting server estimates your approximate location from your IP address using a locally stored location database. This lookup does not send your IP address to an external location service or request precise device location. Only a featured city identifier is returned to your browser. IP locations may be inaccurate, particularly with VPNs. You can choose a city manually; that preference is kept in your browser session storage until the tab session ends. If no nearby featured city can be identified, New York is shown.

We collect only information needed to operate the directory and newsletter, such as submitted listing details, correction reports and newsletter email addresses. Private submitter contact details are not displayed as public directory data.

We may use basic analytics to understand which pages and searches are useful. We do not sell personal information.

Business and newsletter submissions may be retained for moderation, fraud prevention and recordkeeping. You may request correction or deletion by contacting privacy@german-american.info.

This policy may be updated as the site adds new features or service providers. Material changes will be reflected on this page.
